This seems to be the season for everyone to join in giving an opinion about who is to blame for the economy, who has the right answers now, which party is taking the economy in the “right direction” and so on.  That’s OK, but maybe we’re losing sight of something just as important. Why not focus on ourselves — individually — and our personal goals.  How much effort are you really putting into it, or are you just in a holding pattern.

   There are commentators all over the internet, and websites, that push hard at knowing the “job market”, as if that’s the key to your future.  But there is only one “job market”; the one that offers you the job that gets you closer to your goals.  What ever they might be.

   While knowing the jobs that are available is important, it might be helpful to pull back for a moment to look inward.  What I mean is, to examine whether the job that you are offered will get you closer to that goal, or only maintain your present, unsatisfying situation.

   I believe that advancing your personal goals — whatever they are — contributes to the economy, and the good of society in general.  While the United States offers the greatest opportunity, and the freedom to plan your future, the rapid expansion of the global economy actually is best for the new, internationally focused worker.  I am learning so much about this new world, in the Information Age, and I envy young people because of the excitement they must feel at creating it.
